THE DEAL

Word is out:

Simpler deal this time.  A seniority list, no "bells and whistles" (I think that was Frank's words).

AirTran Pilots own the 717.
Southwest pilots own the 737.
Old payrate on the 717 until we cross.
The list provides about 150 SWA upgrades/150 FL down grades.

No 1.25 premium to fly with us (really?  you need more money to fly with me?  not feeling the love)
No furlough protections (ouch)
Old pay 'til we get over.

The MEC says it will go out for vote, but they left themselves some wiggle room (of course).

NO MORE POLITICS.  Let the pilots decide our future!

  1. The 1.25 was for SWA FO's flying with Air Tran Captains who were junior to them. If you saw the provisions to receive the 1.25 adjustment, you had a 1 in 500,000 chance of being eligible.

  2. BOHICA,

Then why include it at all? It was offensive.

  3. Honestly,

I don't know. It didn't come from SWAPA. Truthfully, your pilot group knew more then Southwest pilots on the whole deal. BTW, I've followed your blog and I'm getting more details on what is going on from you then I have from SWAPA. Obviously, I'm a SWA guy and I just wanted to say "Thanks" for keeping positive in these frustrating times. It's difficult, I realize especially with emotions running high but this company has exceeded my expectations so many times that I'm proud to say I work for SWA. I look forward to the day when your pilot group can say the same. This may be hard for you or your co-workers to understand but most SWA pilots trust management. They have led this company through the darkest decade in the airline industry remaining profitable and providing the pilot group a 39% pay increase since 2001. We have good times ahead, I firmly believe that and I know this company will dominate.
I know SWA pilots appear arrogant, I've read that many times on other forums. Maybe we are but it's an arrogance created not from ego but from pride. There's hardly a SWA employee that can not tell you a story about how the company stepped in to help someone in time of personal need. This company will be there for you in your triumphs but I guarantee they will be there during your tragedies. I realize this sounds like a fresh batch of kool-aid and no, I'm not a management pilot, check airman or union rep. I'm just a gear puller who looks forward to going to work and is proud of his company but I speak from the heart when I tell you the amount of support you gain during personal tragedies. I don't know how this integration will go, all I can say is that when the time comes I will make an educated, unemotional, yes or no vote. I do know this, we need to solidify this company soon because there are great opportunities ahead especially if AA declares bankruptcy this fall. SWA is poised to grow and I can easily see our pilot group surpassing 10,000 within the next 5 years (and that's with the age 65 retirements taking place).
Wow! Never intended on writing this much but its easy when you care about something. Keep it on centerline!
